Union of Treatment and Rehabilitation of Users for Social Transformation (U-TRUST) on Thursday, defending Meetei Leepun chief M Pramotchand, condemned the arrest warrant issued against him by the Churachandpur Court.
U-TRUST, in a release, highlighted the initiatives and efforts taken by M Pramotchand for welfare of the society. It stated that he took pivotal roles in preventing drug abuse and the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the state.
It also mentioned that Pramot took an active role in the formation of guidelines included in the gazette for the private centres. He made immense contributions to preserve the age-old traditions left by the forefathers, to unify the Meitei in the state and those residing abroad and to uplift the Meitei society, it asserted.
It pointed out the damages, pain and sufferings caused by the prevailing communal conflict, stating that many ancient worship places of the Meiteis, houses and properties have been destroyed, several lives were lost and many have been left injured and homeless. It said that representatives of both sides have expressed their views on various social media platforms, television interviews and numerous FIRs were lodged.
It condemned that amidst the unrest, the Court ordered the State police to arrest Pramot and bring him to Churachandpur, which is a Kuki majority-inhabited area. It added that no such type of order was issued against those from the Kuki Community and alleged that the same is an attempt to escalate the ongoing violence. It further demanded withdrawal of the case at the earliest.
