A team of district police, Kakching on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers belonging to two different SoO underground groups near Pallel police station gate and seized 22 soap cases filled with heroin powder and weighing around 272 grams.
The drug peddlers have been identified as Paominlun, 31, son of Doukhothang of L. Bolkot village, Churachandpur and HL Seikhongam Mate, 21, son of HL. Heikhokhai Mate of Tengnoupal bazaar, Tengnoupal district.
Police said that as part of ‘War against Drugs’ campaign, they were on duty when a four-wheeler (KWIK) bearing registration number AS02Q-1649 was seen coming towards Pallel police station along the National Highway-2 from Moreh side at around 6:30 AM.
When the police signalled them to stop the vehicle, instead of stopping, they tried to escape. However, the police managed to stop them near Pallel Police station gate, the police informed.
On questioning, the two occupants of the vehicle disclosed their identity and on examination of the vehicle, 22 soap cases of heroin powder weighing around 272 grams were detected from the floor of the co-driver’s seat.
Police informed that on further questioning they disclosed that Paominlun is a cadre of KNLF and HL Seikhongam is a cadre of KNO/PAKAN.
KNLF and KNO/PAKAN are both SoO underground organisations, police said. The two along with the seized drugs were taken to Kakching police station for further necessary legal action.
