Two arrested for possession of SIM cards suspected to be used by 'unlawful organisation'

Police cautioned SIM card retailers not to issue SIM cards through fraudulent means as they can be misused by anti-social elements.

A team of district commando, Imphal West arrested two persons for possession of SIM cards suspected to be used by an "unlawful organisation" from Paona Bazar on Friday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Angomzambam Deval Singh, 39, son of A Kumar of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai in Imphal East and Chanam Jiten Meitei, 37, son of Chanam Shamu Meitei of Chanam Sandrok Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.

Police reported that during preliminary verification, Deval disclosed that he collected the SIM cards from one Chaman Jiten Meitei near Ibohal cycle shop, Paona Bazar as instructed by one Shubam, who is a salesman of Pawan Brother (mobile shop), Moreh.

Jiten further disclosed that an unknown person handed over the SIM cards to him to deliver it to Pawan, who is the owner of Pawan Brothers, Moreh.

One EECO van, two mobile handsets, two wallets, an Aadhaar card, a voter card, an ATM card, a driving license and one photocopy of the vehicle registration card were seized from their possession.

The arrested persons, along with the seizures, have been handed over to City police station and a case has been registered for further investigation.

Police cautioned the SIM card retailers not to issue SIM cards through fraudulent means which can be misused by anti-social elements.
