Two arrested, drugs worth Rs 27 crore seized

Kangpokpi police seized drugs worth Rs 27.15 crore in the international market along the Trans Asian Highway No 1 on Friday.

In another big haul of drugs along the Trans Asian Highway No 1, Kangpokpi police seized drugs worth Rs 27.15 crore in the international market and arrested two drug dealers on Friday.

The seizure was carried out barely a month after the biggest ever drugs haul was reportedly made by the same district police on May 9, when suspected Heroin No 4 worth Rs.31.80 crore in the international market was seized along the same route.

According to the district police, at around 7:30 am Friday, an intensive frisking and checking near Kalapahar outpost by the district police teams were carried out.

It was led by sub inspector S Raju Singh and sub inspector Hemjamang Khongsai under the overall instruction of SP Kangpokpi Amrita Sinha, and under the guidance of additional SP(Ops) Kangpokpi Abul Kalam and additional SP(Law and Order) Kangpokpi Tholu Rocky.

Based on the information about the suspicious movement of drug peddlers along the Trans Asian Highway No 1, one Chevrolet Travera (red colour) bearing Registration No NL05C-1984 was stopped by the police teams, and the driver was preliminarily questioned after he was found behaving in a suspicious manner, according to police.

Eventually, the driver identified as one Thaovikhu Mk, 21, son of Sahriini of Laii village, Tadubi in Senapati district admitted himself as a drug peddler transporting illegal drugs and revealed that suspected Heroin No 4 is concealed in his vehicle.

Upon his disclosure, due formalities were observed and 71 soap cases  containing suspected Heroin No 4 weighing 2.955 kg were seized from the vehicle, the police source said.

The approximate value of the suspected Heroin No 4 is estimated to be Rs 10.65 crore in the international market.

The driver further revealed that he obtained the drugs from one Letkhohao Haokip, 42, son of Letkhojang Haokip of T Champhai village in Churachandpur.

Acting swiftly upon his disclosure, a police team led by sub inspector S Raju Singh rushed to Churachandpur.

With the assistance of superintendent of police Churachandpur Shivananda Surve, and his subordinate officers in the presence of the executive magistrate, 110 soap cases of suspected Heroin No 4 powder were seized from the residence of Letkhojang Haokip from T Champhai village, Churachandpur. He was arrested by observing formalities.

The approximate value of the suspected Heroin No 4 seized from the residence of Letkhojang Haokip is estimated to be Rs 16.50 crore in the international market.

In total, the police managed to recover 181 soap cases of suspected Heroin No 4, worth approximately Rs 27.15 crore in the international market.

A regular case under FIR No. 22(6)2022 KPI-PS under section 21(c)/60(3) ND and PS Act has been registered for investigation while the two accused persons were produced before the court and remanded in seven days of police custody till June 17.

It is worth mentioning that the seizure on May 9 and June 11 were approximately worth Rs 58.95 crore.

In both cases, sub inspector S Raju Singh and Hemjamang Khongsai led the police teams in the seizing of the drugs.
