Two arrested, drugs seized in Thoubal district

Approximately 9,972 tablets, suspected to be WY-tablets were seized from the residence of Imtiyas Khan, it continued. The Lilong Police Station registered a case under NDPS Act.

A combined team of Thoubal commando and Lilong Police on Saturday arrested two miscreants in possession of over 9,000 tablets of illegal drugs from Lilong Ushoipokpi Sangomsang of Thoubal district.

A statement stated that acting on a tip off, the combined force of CDO Thoubal led by OC/CDO inspector N Tikendro Meitei and Lilong Police under the command of additional SP (Ops) Thoubal arrested the culprits and seized the illegal items.

It stated that the arrested culprits from Lilong Ushoipokpi Sangomsang were identified as Md Faroque, 35, son of Md Zanalubuddin, and Md Imtiyas Khan, 30, son of Md Zaheruddin.

In another incident in Thoubal district, a scooterist was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident that took place near Wangjing Kodompokpi ground alongside National Highway 102, Imphal-Moreh road under Thoubal Police Station on Friday night.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and the investigation is on to arrest the culprit.

As per police, the incident happened around 9.25 pm on Friday. The deceased has been identified as one Naorem Suraj, 35, son of Thopi of Tentha Khunou. After meeting with the accident, a Police team from Wangjing Police Outpost admitted him to Thoubal district hospital.

However, the doctor declared him brought dead, according to the Police.

It is learnt that late Suraj was working as a security guard of GR Infra.  After taking dinner, he was on his way riding on his Activa scooter to work the night shift when the incident took place.

Police have found evidence that it was a case of hit-and-run and accordingly, a case has been registered and the investigation has been launched to arrest the culprit.

The body has been admitted to JNIMS and handed over to the bereaved families after conducting a post-mortem examination.
