Two arrested, drugs seized in Imphal West

As many as 50 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing around 660 grams were found inside a carton box belonging to two drug peddlers.

A team of district commando, Imphal West along with women police personnel arrested two drug peddlers in front of Johnstone Higher Secondary school, Imphal at around 2.20 pm on Saturday.

The arrested persons have been identified as one Lhingboi Kipgen, 37, daughter of late Lunkhosei Kipgen of Govajang Village, Tengnoupal district and Ch Konai Maring, 30, son of Modun Maring of  Kambang Khunou Village, Chandel district.

According to police, a team led by officer in charge, district commando unit P Achouba Meeitei under the overall supervision of superintendent of police, Imphal West Ksh Shibkanta Singh conducted frisking and checking in front of Johnstone Higher Secondary School (eastern side).

The two drug peddlers were detained during the activity. During examination, 50 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing around 660 grams were found inside a carton box. Besides the suspected drugs, two thermo-flasks were also seized from their possession.

On questioning, Lhingboi disclosed that she collected the said soap cases from one Lamlam of Myanmar on May 31. They further revealed that they were heading for Dimapur to deliver the said consignment to one Boishi of Dimapur.

The arrested persons along with seized articles have been handed over to City police station and a case has been registered for investigation, police said.
