All Manipur Tribal Development Grievances Forum (AMTDGF) on Tuesday appealed to the BJP-led state government to release MGNREGA funds to all registered job card holders of Manipur within February 2023.

A release issued by AMTDGF secretary Gangonglung Khumba cautioned that various forms of democratic agitations, including economic blockade, would be taken if the state government fails to release the due funds.

It questioned why “the state government has been withholding the fund under MGNREGA since June 2022” and accused the authorities of bluffing and deceiving the beneficiaries rather than addressing their issues.

“The state government has completely failed to pay the outstanding due wages under MGNREGA to all 16 districts of Manipur since 2022.

AMTDGF had been appealing to the state government for the release of the outstanding due wages under MGNREGA since October of 2022 but in vain owing to the stubbornness of the state government,” it added.
