Tribal body on land and forest set up

The Sadar Hills Tribal Union on Land and Forest was constituted in a meeting held at Kangpokpi district Headquarters hosted by the Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association attended by various tribal leaders of the district.

A new tribal organisation - Sadar Hills Tribal Union on Land and Forest - comprising 15 members representating all Naga and Kuki tribes in Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district was constituted at Kangpokpi district headquarters on Tuesday.

The union was constituted in a meeting held at Kangpokpi district headquarters hosted by the Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association attended by various tribal leaders of the district.

M Dominic is the chairman of the new body, while Thangkam Lupheng, Tomba Gangmei, and Dama Vaiphei are the vice-chairmen. Thangminlen Kipgen and Amujai Kamei are appointed as general secretary and joint secretary while Ningam Tangkhul and Thangboi Lhungdim as the finance-cum-treasurer and information and publicity secretary.

The executive members of the tribal union are Jacob Chiru, Loveson Liangmei, Andrew Tangkhul, Kaikhosei Lhouvum, Khamba Kharam, Paotinlun Chongloi, and Lunthang Haokip.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Dominic said that the main objective of the union is to study whether the ongoing land survey and demarcation of the Forest department under the state government infringed the rights of the tribal community. 

He urged all the tribal bodies irrespective of tribes in Sadar Hills Kangpokpi in particular and the state as a whole to support the movement and initiative of the Sadar Hills Tribal Union on Land and Forest.
