A one-day tribal artitsan mela under the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry was held at the multipurpose hall, Tamenglong on Saturday.
The mela was organised by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
TRIFED head office New Delhi senior manager Vikash Sharma and TRIFED regional office Guwahati, deputy manager Pamthing keisingh attended the programme.
Speaking to the media, Vikash Sharma said that the mela is being organised under the Promotion of Tribal Products-Northeast Region (PTP- NER).
He informed that the scheme was launched on April 18 at Imphal by Tribal affairs Minister Arjun Munda in the presence of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.
He said that the tribal artisan mela was organised to mobilize tribal Artisans and promote their products across India. Any artisans participating in this mela would be empanelled for future purchase order, he added.
The tribal artitsan mela also aims to include marketing and logistics development for promotion of production of northeast region, Vikash Sharma said. As of now, promotion programmes of 60 tribal melas are being planned across the northeast, he added.
The total capital outlay for the particular scheme is Rs. 153 crore, he pointed out. After conducting tribal artitsan mela in Senapati, Churachandpur, Kamjong and Noney, TRIFED is organising tribal artitsan melas in Tamenglong. Few artisans attended the mela in Tamenglong district.
