Tree plantation marks World Environment Day 2022 celebration across Manipur

Several districts in Manipur, including Thoubal, Pherzawl, Tamenglong and others celebrated World Environment Day 2022.

Manipur joined the rest of the world in observing the World Environment Day 2022 by organising various environment-related activities. Planting of saplings and raising awareness on the issues of climate change and global warming were held in several districts across the state.   

In Thoubal district, staff of DIG Range II, Manipur celebrated the day at its office and planted several saplings at its office complex.

Reader to the DIG Range II, sub inspector N Angoubi, who led the plantation drive, said that the observance was conducted under the initiative of DIG Range II, Ningshem Worngam.

District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal in collaboration with Thoubal District Bar association also observed the occasion at the district and Sessions court complex, Thoubal at Khangabok.

The event included a cleanliness programme within the district and Sessions Court complex and a tree plantation programme.

Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal in collaboration with Youth Circle Moijing and YEDS Moijing also conducted tree plantation and cleanliness activities at Eidgah Park Moijing. 


The same was also organised by NYK Thoubal affiliated youth clubs at Salungpham by the Salungpham Youth Association and at Wangjing Lamding by SACA club.

In Kakching district, Kakching High School, 1984 Matric Batch Alumni observed the day at their school and planted tree saplings in and around the school campus, stated a release by Alumni president N Munal Meitei.

Grace Cottage Academy Kakching School also observed the day with more than 200 students of the school joining the events. They planted saplings along the Kakching Louyai stretch. 

In Tamenglong district, the celebration was organised by the Rainforest Club Tamenglong in collaboration with District Administration, Tamenglong, Tamenglong Forest Division and The Corbett Foundation. 

Local MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Sub- divisional officer Tamenglong Rohit Anand, Sub- divisional officer Tamenglong Paul Nangsha, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Honorary Wildlife Warden and Advisor to Rainforest Club Tamenglong, Honorary Wildlife Warden Nehiamiah Panmei attended the World Environment Day celebration. 

Prizes for best photography were also given out through the guests. The Best photography competition was held in connection with the celebration of World Environment Day 2022 to create awareness among the young generation.


Pherzawl Forest Division under the aegis of the District Administration also organised mass plantation drive at its camp office and across the district with active involvement of SP, ADM, DFO and Staff, CMO Staff and other DLOs.    

In Nungba, the day was celebrated at Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidalaya, Rengpang along with Noney Forest Division and Longmai Nature Club. Tree saplings were planted at the school campus to commemorate the day. 

Similar plantations were also held at Kambiron (Puiluan) and Apinjang (Nungleiband) under Noney Forest Division.

In Ukhrul, the day was observed under the theme ‘Reimagine, Recreate and Restore’ at Phungyar town public organisation multipurpose hall, Phungyar block headquarters. It was jointly organised by the district forest division, Kamjong district and Yaotakhi Initiatives, an NGO based in the district.  

Addressing the public, district forest officer Kamjong SW Suisa said that the efforts to restore planet earth should be the bounden responsibility of every human because mother earth has no replacement. 

Suisa said the World Environment Day 2022 was also observed at Kamjong headquarters, Phungyar and Kasom khullen sub division.  As a part of the observance, tree saplings were planted at Phungyar police station premises, SDO office and other important areas of the sub-division.
