Addressing a press meet held at AMSU head office located at DM university complex, AMSU vice president Laishram Athouba Meitei said that the joint committee was formed following a resolution taken during the first meeting between the two parties along with the society.

The committee will mount pressure on the state government to revise the current rate of passenger fare, fright and hiring charges of motor vehicles, Athouba said, adding that the committee will also pressurise the state government to ensure effective implementation of incentive schemes for private school transporters and continue with the 50 per cent concession for students in uniform and identity cards of school and college and university.

The committee also said it will frame a new transport policy by taking into account the rise in fuel price.
Athouba further said that the current fare is based on the official gazette notification of 2008, but as the rules have become outdated, there have been a number of instances where passengers and transporters have engaged in heated arguments due to disagreement regarding the fare being charged.
