The government's silence on the present unrest, starting from the alleged attack on civilians by militant groups under the SoO to the illegal price hike of essential commodities, has given a hard time to the people living in Manipur, the Peoples’ Action for National Democratic Movement (PAMDM) said on Sunday.
In this present scenario, it is not the right time to wait for government’s initiative to redress the issue faced by the people of the state, instead, it is time to tackle all the issues by ourselves, said secretary general (in-charge) of PANDM Brojendro Soraisam while speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal.

Stating that paramilitary forces have failed to reach vulnerable peripheral areas despite deployment in the state, he said that, as a consequence, villagers in the peripheral regions have started demanding guns to defend themselves instead of relief materials.
It is unfortunate that both the central and state governments have not taken any action against those militants under SoO who defy its ground rules, he added.
He also pointed out that, taking advantage of the present situation in the state, the non-local traders are playing with the price of the essential commodities at their own will.
However, it is very sad to see that the functionaries of the concerned department have not taken up any initiatives to control the price of the essential commodities, he said, adding that such illegally hiking prices of goods is an act of giving additional suffering to the public.
