Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Friday stated that Police teams and additional security forces conducted combing operations in the hill ranges adjoining the area after Kuki militants deployed long-range rockets among the civilian population in two locations of Bishnupur district.
One senior citizen civilian, RK Rabei ,78, of Moirang Phiwangbam Leikai, expired and six other civilians were injured during the attacks in Moirang Khoiru Leikai, Bishnupur district, stated a release.
Two bunkers at Mualsang village and one bunker at Laika Mualsau village of Churachandpur, three bunkers in total were destroyed, it stated.
Further, Police teams of the Bishnupur District including the SP rushed to the area in which they were fired upon by suspected Kuki militants but the police team retaliated robustly and repelled the attack, it said. Military chopper has been deployed to conduct aerial patrolling, it added.
Senior officers of the Police including IGP and DIGP are at the spot to take immediate counter measures and supervise the volatile situation. High level security meetings have been conducted to take stock of the law and order, it mentioned.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and the police are prepared to respond to any contingency that may arise, it stated.
Movement of 115 and 153 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 with respectively essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it mentioned.
It further said that a total of 101 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 131 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately. During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State was tense but under control, it added.
