Three-day hands on training on ELISA testing kicks off

Director of Health Services Dr Chambo Gonmei stated that Manipur does not still have proper institution and trained personnel for medical investigation.

A three-day Elisa Hands on Training programme for Lab Technician, Labour Incharge and DSU Microbiologist kicked off at Shija Academy of Heath Sciences, Langol on Wednesday.

The programme has been organised by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), National Health Mission, Manipur.

Speaking on the occasion, director of Health Services Dr Chambo Gonmei stated that Manipur does not still have proper institution and trained personnel for medical investigation.

"Even though the state has several medical institutions, there is no proper institution dedicated to medical investigation," he said.

As such, he highlighted that sophisticated medical investigations and tests for complicated illness and diseases were sent outside the state.

He exuded confidence that the training programme would aid in bridging the shortage of qualified trained personnel for medical investigation in Manipur.

Meanwhile, State Surveillance officer Directorate of Health Services Dr S Gopal stated that the programme was a very important and necessary training programme for the progress of medical sciences in Manipur.

He exhorted the participants not to hesitate in fulfilling their curiosity and learning as much as they can during the training programme.

"Lack of proper testing facilities also poses great obstacle for people coming from far flung areas of the state," he said.

Director of Shija Academy of Health Sciences Dr M Amuba, director of Medical Services Dr Jugindro Sorokhaibam among other attended the inaugural function.

ELISA Test (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) is a laboratory technique used to detect and quantify specific antibodies or antigens in a sample, typically blood or serum.

It is used in diagnosing infectious diseases such as HIV, Lyme disease and other autoimmune disorders and allergies. 

The test is simple and inexpensive while having a wide range of applications. Some common ELISA tests are HIV ELISA, Lyme disease ELISA, Rheumatoid factor ELISA, Allergy ELISA and Influenza ELISA.
