Thoubal: Vocational training courses for girls in shelter homes launched

A 15-day fine arts and painting class was organised at the Open Shelter Home located at Wangbal.

District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Thoubal on Wednesday launched several vocational training courses for girls in different children homes, shelter homes and observation homes of Thoubal district.

The vocational courses are being held at two training centres with the aim of providing job skills for the girls and making them self-reliant.

As a part of the campaign, a 15-day fine arts and painting class was organised at the Open Shelter Home located at Wangbal. Altogether, 16 girls of the open shelter home will be taking part in the painting class with RK Jiten as the instructor.

A one-month craft training programme for cane and bamboo products was also started at the Women’s Income Generation Centre (WIGC), Thoubal Wangmataba. A total of 18 girls will be trained under the crafts instructor of the centre, Shusilla.

Legal cum probation officer of DCPU Thoubal, Reena Chanu Nongmaithem inaugurated both the training programmes at the two centres. Key officials of shelter homes and children homes also participated at the inaugural events.
