'There will be no other chiefs' association, organisation except SAHILCA in Kangpokpi'

A joint meeting of the Kangpokpi district civil society organisations under the aegis of Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association (SAHILCA) unanimously resolved that selling of land or on lease shall be strictly prohibited in the district while if any land is on lease its duration must not be extended in any way.

A joint crucial meeting of Kangpokpi district civil society organisations under the aegis of Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association (SAHILCA) at Lhangkichoi village unanimously adopted several resolutions on various issues to be strictly adhered to in the district with immediate effect.

According to SAHILCA, the joint meeting unanimously resolved that selling of land or on lease shall be strictly prohibited in the district while if any land is on lease its duration must not be extended in any way.

During the meeting, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi, Thadou Inpi Kangpokpi, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills, Thadou Youth Association (TYA), Vaiphei People's Council (VPC) Kangpokpi, Gangte Tribe Union (GTU) Kangpokpi, Zillai Kangpokpi, Gangte Students' Organization (GSO) Kangpokpi, Kuki Women Union Kangpokpi, Thadou Women Association Kangpokpi, KomRem Students' Association Kangpokpi are identified as civil society organisations of Kangpokpi district.

It also resolved that no civil society organisations, except those identified in the joint meeting, shall exist or function in the district while there shall be no other chiefs' association or organisation except SAHILCA.

The joint meeting also unanimously and strongly resolved to ban Poppy cultivation in the district.

It was also resolved that Kangpokpi district CSOs will collectively pursue and do the needful in matters pertaining to land records, forest reserve, panchayat election, police boundary, etc., and shall jointly fight for the welfare of the district.

Ban on quarrying in Kangpokpi district by Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Manipur is not endorsed by SAHILCA, and as such it [ban on quarrying] has been revoked by SAHILCA and Kangpokpi civil society organizations.

As per the Government of Manipur orders dated June 15, 2013, that pertains to handing over of Land Records to the concerned district Deputy Commissioner is yet to be materialized, the joint meeting urged the state Government for a speedy accomplishment of its order and in case of any issues or problems arising out of it the Government of Manipur shall be solely responsible and blame should not be upon SAHILCA and Kangpokpi District civil society organisations.

The joint meeting also resolved that departments including forest and police from other districts shall no more be allowed to execute any activities within the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi district.
