Womenfolk of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai in Imphal West, Manipur staged a sit-in protest at the Thangmeiband Youth Centre Club on Sunday, condemning the blast that took place at the locality on Saturday night.
An IED explosion reportedly took place at the gate of one Hijam Ibungo at Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai at around 7.40 pm Saturday. There was no report of any casualty but the impact of the explosion damaged parts of the surrounding area.
“There is no place for violence in this civilised era. Such a terrifying act in a residential area is unacceptable,” said a protester, Hijam ongbi Chandrabati. His wife said,“We still cannot ascertain the reason behind the blast”.
Stating that the people of Thangmeiband do not welcome any “gun culture,” president of Thangmeiband United Club (a conglomeration of all clubs of Thangmeiband area) Pratap Leishangthem sought clarification from the group or individual responsible for the blast.
Till the filling of this report, none had claimed responsibility for the blast.
The Imphal police said it has registered an FIR in connection with the blast and investigation is underway to book the culprit.
