Thanga Landslide: MLA leads immediate response

Accompanied by the DC, Bishnupur, state forces and officials from the PWD, Thanga AC MLA Tongbram Robindro visited Thanga Khunjem, Thanga Ngaram and Ething villages, which experienced minor landslides on Friday due to continuous rainfall over the past few days.

In an effort to mitigate the impact of recent landslides in Thanga AC MLA Tongbram Robindro conducted a comprehensive inspection of affected areas on Saturday.

Accompanied by the DC, Bishnupur, state forces and officials from the PWD, the MLA visited Thanga Khunjem, Thanga Ngaram and Ething villages, which experienced minor landslides on Friday due to continuous rainfall over the past few days.

During the inspection, the team observed a 20-meter-long crack on the Thanga Khunjem road and noted minor damage to one house, resulting in the loss of some property.

In response, Robindro has directed local residents to exercise caution and avoid the affected regions.

The affected family has also been temporarily relocated to ensure their safety, following the MLA guidance.

“We are committed to implementing all necessary measures to mitigate the impact of the landslide and ensure the safety of the residents,” Robindro affirmed during a media interaction at the site.

He emphasised the use of machinery, such as excavators, to clear debris from affected areas, highlighting the challenging terrain and the proximity of residential areas to hills in Thanga AC.

Acknowledging the recurring nature of landslides during the rainy season in Thanga AC, he appealed to the residents to refrain from digging near hills without consulting relevant authorities.

“It is crucial that we take preemptive measures and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent further incidents,” he stressed.

The MLA also assured continued vigilance and support from the government to safeguard residents from potential risks posed by natural disasters.

Appraising the locals to stay informed and cooperate with local authorities to ensure their safety during this monsoon season, Robindro concluded by urging the populace of Thanga AC to prioritise safety and adhere to precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of natural calamities effectively.
