Textiles Minister Nemcha Kipgen calls for promoting Manipur handloom and handicrafts

Textiles Minister Nemcha Kipgen flagged off a cycle rally in Imphal to promote Manipur International Textile Expo (MANITEX) 2022.

In an effort to make Manipur a self-reliant state, Textiles Minister Nemcha Kipgen on Saturday called on the people of the state to get used to the handloom and handicraft items made in Manipur and support weavers and artisans of the state.

The minister was delivering the chief guest speech during a flagging off of a Cycle Rally event from the Western Gate of the Kangla Fort in Imphal West.

The event was organised to promote the upcoming Manipur International Textile Expo (MANITEX) 2022 scheduled from November 5 to 14 at Urban Haat in Imphal East.

Lauding the participants of the cycle rally which includes film stars of Manipur such as G Bonny; Maxina Paonam; Biju Ningombam and Gepelina, she said that it is believed the rally will help in attracting more visitors to the expo thereby profiting the weavers and artisans.

The cycle rally, organised by the directorate of Handloom and Textiles in association with the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA), was led by chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited Kh Ibomcha who is the MLA of Lamlai AC.

Prior to the rally, MAAMBA president Dr Ng Arunkumar briefed the participants on the rules and regulation of riding a cycle in the busy street.

The cycle rally was accorded a warm reception on its route by MLA S Rajen at Lamsang Bazar, Social Welfare Minister H Dingo at Khurkhul and MLA Th Arunkumar at Pheidinga before reaching the final destination at Urban Haat.
