Teli are encroachers, steps will be taken up to evict them: Public convention

A public convention resolved to immediately ban calling Khurai Ahongpung as Telipati by the Teli residing at the area.

A public convention on "Reconstruction Ahongpung Laiphamlen" resolved that the non-locals (also known as Teli) settled at Khurai Ahongpung areas are land encroachers and steps will be taken up to evict them.

The public convention was organised by Leihoumi Salai Ahongpung Thougal Lup (LSATL) on Sunday at Lainingthou Awangba Sanglen, Khurai Thangjam Leikai in Imphal East.

The convention also resolved to immediately ban calling Khurai Ahongpung as Telipati by the Teli residing at that area.

It also resolved to renovate the shrines and surroundings of Ema Soubom Leirembi at Khurai Ahongpung.

Delivering his speech, president of LSATL, Ch Nandalal Angomcha, informed that Maharaja Churachand brought four-five Teli from Bihar in 1924.

That population increased and named the Ahongpung area as Telipati, he said.

The convention was also attended by president of Maichou Ningsing Lup, M Tomba Khuman, as chief guest; president of Soibam Leikai Yaipha Ningshing Lup, Lupopati Leima and president of Lairembi Sintha Lup, Ahongei M Meena as guests of honour. It was also attended by representatives of UKAL and other cultural and heritage groups.
