A top think tank of the Meitei community ‘Taragi Cheishu’ has released a three volume book called ‘Manipur Papers’ at the JN Dance Academy Hall in Imphal on Sunday.
The three books are embedded with a rich reference to historical documents, records and citation to enable the readers to draw a general and nuanced overview of what is happening in the geo-politically fragile borderland state of Manipur.
Taragi Cheishu chairperson Khaidem Mani said that Manipur Papers is a mega book in three volumes as it is a pack of the past and present documents that will become a history-based book in the future.
The books will help students, particularly researchers, he said. While reading the books, one can claim that such a scale of inter-community relations has never been recorded, particularly in the chequered history of post-British Manipur, he added.
Highlighting the works of Taragi Cheishu, Khaidem Mani said that Taragi Cheishu is not a civil society organisation but a unity platform.
Diverting his speech from the books, Khaidem Mani said that it is said that the Indian government is trying to solve the situation in the state, but how they are trying. It is not a time for trying, it is time to work together to work out issues, he said.
All political parties and politicians should come together in a platform forming a coordinating body to work together, he suggested.
With a determined hope to restore normalcy and peace in Manipur, ‘Manipur Papers’ is to make an unassuming attempt to provide an academic understanding of the issues concerning governance and ethnicity.
It is also the books to make readers at home and elsewhere to exercise their own wisdom to arrive at a logical understanding of events and experience through the vast ranges of documents and comparative evidence which are attached as annexures to the compilation, T Brojen said in the introductory speech.
The books were released by acclaimed film director, Aribam Shyam Sharma and Taragi Cheishu chairperson Khaidem Mani.
