As a part of the national road safety month, Tamenglong police on Saturday enforced wearing of helmet by two-wheeler drivers in the district headquarters.
The initiative was led by Additional Superintendent of Police Tamenglong Karthik Malladi, SDPO Tameglong Josiah Pamei and OC Tamenglong Th Dominique.
Speaking to the Imphal Free Press, SDPO Tamenglong Josiah Pamei said the drive will continue to create awareness on road safety and urged all public support and cooperation to the law enforcement personnel. Pamei also appealed to all to follow traffic rules and road safety to avoid accidents.
Pamei further informed that Tamenglong Police Station has made public announcement for almost a week in January to wear helmets while driving two wheelers.
“We are approaching local dailies to publish the same. Please inform and advice all friends and families to wear helmets for their safety. The amount of fine for not wearing helmet while riding is Rs 1,000," the SDPO Tamenglong said.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of police Tamenglong Mohurle Sandeep advised to ride and drive safely as light vehicles and trucks movement have increased in the district headquarters.
Action will be taken as per Motor Vehicles Act for those found driving or riding intoxicated, Sandeep added.
