The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has appealed to leaders of the state to take a firm stand on the decades long Naga Peace Accord which is likely to be finalised in September as per some news reports.
The UCM said in a release on Wednesday that some media has reported that the decades old Naga Peace Talk is likely to come to a final settlement next month. It was also reported that interlocutor RN Ravi and Manipur Naga CSOs have left Imphal for Delhi to discuss the matter.
It continued that nobody knows the content of the agreement except the government of India and signatories of the agreement. The leaders of the state should be cautious and stand against peace talk, however their stand should not affect or harm the interest of the people of the state, it added.
The state is struggling to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic however the leaders of the state should not sideline the final settlement on Naga Peace Talk, said the release.
Recalling the Kabaw Valley incident, it stated that historically Kabaw Valley was once part of Manipur but it was taken away by Myanmar. To prevent the occurrence of such scenario again, leaders of the state should not remain idle, it added.
It further stated that UCM will never give up the stand that was made since the day the peace talk began.
The UCM appreciated the decision of the Central government to conclude the long pending Naga Accord. However the committee will never compromise unity and territorial integrity of the state for the sake of the accord, it stated.
