In a spirited celebration of the cleanliness drive in the community, the people of Tamenglong took part in a marathon race as a part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.
The race commenced at Haipou Jadonang Park, making its way to 5th Manipur Rifles Gate and returning to the starting point, emphasising the importance of cleanliness and environmental awareness.
The event was flagged off by the deputy commissioner Tamenglong, L Angshim Dangshawa, who was joined by the Superintendent of Police Tamenglong, Lanmiyo Luikham, Tamenglong ADC chief executive officer Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei who is also the nodal officer of Swachhata Hi Seva, chief medical officer Tamenglong Majachunglu Gangmei, additional SP of Tamenglong Josiah T Pamei and other esteemed officials, all of whom lent their support to the campaign.
Runners from various backgrounds, students, CSO leaders, civillains totalling more than 200 persons participated in the marathon, showcasing their dedication not only to fitness but also to the cause of promoting a cleaner environment.
The competitive spirit was palpable, with Kenedy Kamei, Sangrungpang village clinching the first place, Buanthanlung Gonmei, Namkaolong village got the second position and Ganglan Gangmei, Thiulon village securing the third spot.
Ganchuiliu Gangmei, Kajatliu Gangmei, Lungsingthuanliu Panmei and Martha Panmei secured first, second, third and fourth positions in the women’s category.
All the winners were honored with certificates in recognition of their achievements and contributions to the event.
In addition to the marathon, the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign will host a ‘Waste to Art’ event on September 23, encouraging creativity and innovation in recycling waste materials.
This initiative aims to inspire community members to think differently about waste and its potential for artistic expression. The District Administration, Tamenglong invited all to take part in this event.
As the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign continues, officials urged everyone to participate actively in upcoming events, reinforcing the message that a cleaner environment is a shared responsibility.
