The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has taken suo moto cognizance over the mysterious death of a mother and her 4-year-old daughter.
It should be mentioned that the two dead bodies were found lying on the bed inside the house of the deceased woman on the morning of September 23, 2024, in Lilong Haoreibi under the jurisdiction of Wangoi Police Station.
In response to this incident, the MCPCR, led by chairperson Keisam Pradipkumar, conducted a site visit to the locality on October 5, 2024.
During the visit, the Commission engaged with local residents and representatives from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) to gather insights and statements regarding the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Recognizing the severity of this incident, which resulted in the tragic loss of both a mother and her minor daughter, the MCPCR has urged the Superintendent of Police in Imphal West to conduct a swift and impartial investigation.
The MCPCR has emphasized the need for transparency and thoroughness in the inquiry, underscoring the importance of justice for the victims and their families.
Furthermore, the Commission has directed the Superintendent of Police to submit an action taken report as soon as possible to ensure accountability and progress in the investigation.
The MCPCR’s intervention highlights its commitment to protecting child rights and addressing issues of violence and injustice in the state.
