Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) scheme was launched in Churachandpur, in a first in Manipur, in an effort to promote quality healthcare and prevent deaths due to child delivery.
Churachandpur district deputy commissioner Sarat Chandra Arroju launched the scheme at the District Hospital.
The event was organised by District Health Society/National Health Mission, Churachandpur with the mission to end all preventive maternal and new-born deaths.
It was attended by chief medical officer Churachandpur Kimngaihching Simte, medical superintendent of District hospital T Valalkungi, SUMAN scheme facilitators and hospital staff on Wednesday.
District Family Welfare Office DNO (SUMAN) Dr Kh Sania Monica said the scheme will be launched in five more districts, including one at a CHC in Imphal, with the aim to prevent deaths due to child delivery.
The scheme will also promote quality healthcare for pregnant women with zero expenditure for normal and cesarean delivery.
The new DC of Churachandpur, attending as chief guest, said the SUMAN Scheme was a scheme that incorporates all other such schemes in the past and congratulated the District Health Society for launching the first such schemes in the state.
He said that he was fortunate to have a competent medical team which was proved by the recent incident at Henglep subdivision. The DC and other officials also inspected the proposed COVID-19 isolation ward at district hospital and the Tele ICU which presently has 10 beds.
