Villagers of Chakha and Kangjang in Senapati district have expressed disappointment over the substandard blacktopping of the inter village road connecting the two villages with the rest of the district under PMGSY.

The asphalt has been raveled and many portions of the road washed away by seepage of water from the rainfall this year, the villagers lamented.

Speaking to the media, chairman of Chakha village PT Khomwibo said that the blacktopping of the inter village road stretch was initiated just some months ago.

However, the base of the asphalt has been corroded and many portions of the asphalt along the road can be pulled up with bare hands, he said.

He further contended that the villagers even allowed the contractor to use the sand and stones available in the village in the road construction for free with the hope that the road will be blacktopped properly. Contrary to the villagers’ expectations, the contractor gave lame excuses when complained about the substandard quality, he alleged.

The village chairman maintained that Chakha is yet to have a health centre. Presently, transportation of materials for construction of a health centre is underway, he said, adding that the same has been hindered by the poor condition of the road,

He drew the attention of the government to ensure quality maintenance in the blacktopping of the only motorable road connecting the two villages with the rest of the district.
