Addressing the press on Sunday at the Chief Engineer Officer Chamber, PWD, Kh Temba said that the verification of all government quarters located at different places is underway following the initiative by Chief Minister N Biren. The state government already issued notices for eviction of all illegal occupiers of government quarters, the chief engineer informed.

During the verification, unauthorized occupants were found and some government employees, who rented their quarters, were suspended. There are 1,846 quarters under PWD, Temba informed, adding that verification has been conducted in 2018 and again in 2020.

The department is following the quarter allotment rule 1994, according to which any employee, who is residing within 8 km from Imphal should not be allowed to take government quarter, Temba said.
