The Tousem Headquarters Students' Union (THSU) on Sunday took out a rally at Tousem sub-divisional headquarters in protest against the Affected Land and Property Owners' Association (ALPOA)’s move to stop the construction works on NH-137 between Tamenglong-Mahur road.

THSU had expressed that they are not against the demands raised by ALPOA, but it opposed the stopping of ongoing construction works.

THSU stated that it will neither entertain nor cooperate with any agitations that will halt the construction works especially at areas which fall under their Jurisdiction, and the union will never allow any organisations to halt the ongoing construction works under Tousem Jurisdiction.

It warned that any organisation that interferes with the ongoing construction works will be fought tooth and nail. However, the ALPOA had served notice to stop the road construction works with effect from February 19.

The ALPOA has been demanding the state government of Manipur to conduct a physical land survey, assessment and valuation of property for payment of compensation to the affected people at the earliest.

ALPOA had served an ultimatum on January 18, giving a duration of one month to fulfill their demand.

As it allegedly fell on deaf ears, the ALPOA had no options left but to serve notice to stop the road construction works of NH-137 Tamenglong-Mohur road.
