Tousem Headquarters Students’ Union (THSU) and Zeme Students’ Organisation Manipur (ZSOM) on Tuesday announced to initiate various forms of agitations to highlight the grievances of Tousem.
The student body in a statement informed Imphal Free Press that on 16 August 2024, a joint memorandum by the THSU and Zeme Students’ Organisation Manipur ZSOM was submitted to the chief minister of Manipur N Biren Singh.
The memorandum included a 30-day ultimatum, demanding the reallocation of the sub-divisional officer office to Tousem Headquarters, which is currently functioning in Tamenglong District Headquarters, and addressing the long-standing government negligence of Tousem subdivision.
Despite that, the state government has failed to provide a positive response within the given stipulated time to the genuine demands of the people, it stated.
“As a result, the unions are left with no choice but to initiate various forms of agitation to highlight the grievances of Tousem. The long-standing grievances of Tousem Subdivision can no longer be ignored.
The state government will be held fully responsible for any untoward incidents or consequences arising from these actions. We urge the government to take immediate action to meet the demands and avoid further unrest”, the statement read.
