Stop looting commuters: Longmai CSOs

The CSOs stated that on April 13 along NH/37 some armed miscreants at Naoremthong Road Tera Bazar forcefully confiscate a cash amounting to Rs 13,00,000 from a vehicle.

Longmai CSOs, student bodies on Saturday urged to stop frisking, looting, unwarranted detention, annoying investigation, seizure of vehicles, and other forms of disturbances made towards the commuters passing through the Meetei dominated and Kukis dominated areas.

A joint release issued by the Villages Council Longmai Area, (VCLA), Longmai Youth League, (LYL), Longmai Students Union (LSU), Longmai Peih, V/A, Longmai, Longmai Bazar Board, NWU, Longmai Area stated that on April 13 along NH/37 some armed miscreants at Naoremthong Road Tera Bazar forcefully confiscate a cash amounting to Rs 13,00,000 from a vehicle.

A sum of Rs 3,500 from the wallet, and one mobile phone One plus 10 Pro with an Airtel Sim card were also taken by the armed miscreants, it said. The four wheeler, TOYOTA Fortuner, white in colour, bearing registration No. MN05A 5350 belonged to one KP Naman of Noney, Longmai Bazar, it stated.

In a meeting, the CSOs have resolved to appeal to all parties concerned to desist from such atrocities, it said that the meeting also resolved to appeal to the concerned officials of the government and public representative, to settle the case of KP Naman within 10 days time, failing which, the public shall resort to democratic form of agitations.

An appeal was earlier made on October 4 duly addressed to the Concerned MLA, Nungba Assembly constituency with a copy each to the Superintendent of Police, Noney and Imphal East, it mentioned.

The CCTV footage of the incident was also widely circulated, but the authority gave no visible positive response, considered satisfactory until the last minute of October 19, as per the ultimatum of 15 days served to the authority, it stated.

It further said that prior to this ultimatum, numerous written appeals to many concerned officials were duly made, FIR, lodged to the concerned Police Station, several releases, and press conference were made but the case seems to be heading nowhere.

Considering the case as a matter of serious concern, the VCLA, LYL, LSU in collaboration with various area based CSOs, made the appeal on October 4, it added.

Since the matter still remain unresolved till date, the CSOs held a meeting and minutely deliberate the other cases like the looting incident of one Kabiduan Phaomei of Longmai, Noney in which suspected KCP cadres confiscated a sum of Rs 75,000 and many other cases of harassment like frisking, unwarranted detention, annoying investigation, arresting vehicle, and other form of disturbances made towards the commuters, along the route, passing through the Meetei Dominated and Kukis dominated areas.
