Kangla Phamthou 64 on Sunday asserted that there should be no division among people based on the geographical landscape of Manipur.
“Manipur is a hill state which just so happens to have a valley. But geographical inclination laced with ethnocentric perspectives has created a divisive rift between the valley and the hills,” the group stated.
As such, the group appealed to all indigenous communities to abstain from drawing out insignificant differences based on such notions and strive collectively for a united Manipur.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, general secretary of the group W Birenkumar Moirangcha informed that this year’s annual ‘Malem Paphal Chingkhatpa’ ceremony would be held at Kangla on September 2 in the presence of Eningthou Sanajaoba Leishemba.
“The ceremony is performed to preserve and safeguard the culture and traditions of all the indigenous communities of Manipur and also promote cordial relations for peace and tranquility in the ancient kingdom,” he said.
He highlighted that the ritual had been performed since 1947 during the reign of Maharaja Budhachandra with the objective of promoting unity among the various communities.
As such, he appealed to all indigenous communities to take part in the ritual and move away from the divisive hill-valley politics and instead promote the message of united Manipur.
