Stop bomb explosion in residential areas: Protesters in Imphal

Members of several groups condemned the Friday bomb blast in Imphal West, and held a sit-in protest against the act of exploding bombs in residential areas.

A sit-in protest was carried out on Saturday, condemning the IED explosion that took place at a house gate on Friday at Tera Sapam Leirak Nongmaithem Leikai under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West.

The IED exploded at the gate of an official of the Agriculture department, Ningthoujam Gojendro, around 9.18 pm. There were no report of any casualties, police said.

The protest was carried out at around 1.30 pm at the community hall of Sapam Leirak Nongmaithem Leikai ground. It was attended by members and representatives of the Youth Bright Star Club, Nongmaithem Leikai Singlup, New Era Women Association and the Tera Keithel Women Association. 

One S Pramodini, a protester, termed the IED blast an act of cowardice. If there are any differences, the matter should be settled amicably, she said, adding, "If any of our families and relatives happened to be around the proximity of the blast, they could have been severely injured".

She vehemently condemned the blast and appealed not to carry out similar acts in the future.
