State cabinet approves Manipur Plastic Policy 2022

The Manipur Plastic Policy seeks to tackle the multi-faceted plastic pollution by regulating use of plastics.

The Manipur cabinet on Wednesday approved the Manipur Plastic Policy 2022 in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s objective to phase out single-use plastic by 2022. The policy seeks to tackle the multi-faceted plastic pollution by regulating use of plastics.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh chaired the cabinet meeting with all 11 ministers in attendance this evening.

The policy also includes that any person found dealing in or using plastic items in contravention of the direction stipulated in the policy will face imprisonment upto five years term, with a fine extendable upto Rs 1 lakh. Further, the cabinet also reviewed the progress of the 100-Days programme.

As part of the 100-Action Points for the First-100 days of the new government, the cabinet has also resolved to take up immediate steps to double the width of 79 roads consisting of 57 roads in Greater Imphal area, 10 in other district headquarters in the valley areas and another 12 roads in the hill district headquarters.

The cabinet further approved the Manipur Tourism Policy 2022 considering the changing scenario of the tourism industry in the world. The policy seeks to harness the tourism potential of the State and to create employment and livelihood opportunities, to encourage investment and increase revenue generation.

Extending the Hills Leaders Day and Meeyamgi Numit held at the chief minister’s secretariat, the cabinet has decided to launch District Hill Leaders’ Day and Meeyamgi Numit to bring the government services at the doorstep of the general public.

Meanwhile, regarding the Start-up idea Covid Scheme, the cabinet has approved to provide 100 per cent subsidy of Rs 30,000 as first installment seed money to support certain categories of applicants.
