ST Demand: STDCM submits memorandum to MLA S Premchandra

STDCM has been continuously submitting memorandum to all MLAs, ministers of the state as a part of their movement for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the scheduled tribe list.

As a part of ongoing agitation in connection with demand for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in scheduled tribe list, the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has submitted a memorandum to MLA of Kumbi Constituency, Sanasam Premchandra Singh on Friday.

STDCM has been continuously submitting memorandum to all MLAs, ministers of the state as a part of their movement for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the scheduled tribe list. And as they submitted the memorandum at the residence of MLA Kumbi constituency, Sanasam Premchandra at Mongsangei, a large number of STDCM volunteers throng his residence.

While receiving the memorandum, MLA also assured that his cooperation would be extended to achieve the said demand. He said that every community in the state deserved to live with dignity and equality without any kind of discrimination.

He said that Meitei/Meetei have unique cultural, religious and traditional identity but its real and original identity was partially changed due to some historical incident. However, the present generation taking the initiative to return back to root is highly appreciable, he said.

Volunteers of the committee also said that the population of Meitei/Meetei is diminishing gradually. To prevent this indigenous community from extinction from their own native land is constitutional rights, the volunteers and called for necessary steps for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in ST list as getting constitutional safeguard is the only way to protect Meitei or Meetei from threat of extinction.
