Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club in Imphal, YPPM co-convenor Jurist Khumancha stated that the thesis titled “Socio Economy roots of Insurgency in Northeast India” supervised by Professor Amar Yumnam and Sadananda Sahoo has contents with potential to disturb the peace and progress of Manipur.

He pointed out that the thesis contains many distorted facts about the history of Manipur which includes an assertion of merger of Manipur to India in 1949 being only for 700 square miles, implying that Manipur, which is a recognised state of India, comprises valley districts only.

The thesis, which is also published as a book, is being widely used by individuals and organisations to justify their actions of poisoning the minds of many innocent youths, especially from hills areas that they never belong to Manipur thereby, sowing seeds for disintegrating Manipur, he said, adding it will remain as a threat to the integrity of Manipur unless corrective measures are taken.

Moreover, the thesis is against the spirit of the various resolutions taken by the Manipur Legislative Assembly to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur for preserving the centuries old unity of the people of Manipur, he added.

Stating that the YPPM failed in making the supervisors of the thesis to take corrective actions due to their adamant and irresponsible attitudes, the co-convenor said that the YPPM drew the attention of the Speaker to deliver justice as they are left with no other means.
