Sonowal assures Centre's support to make Loktak Lake one of the world's best water bodies

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the Manipur government to not hesitate in apprising the ministry for every required promotional and development works in Loktak to make it a world class tourist center.

The Central government is ready to extend every possible support to make the Loktak Lake one of the best water bodies in the world, assured Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday.

Sonowal was addressing a reception programme by the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) at Sendra, Bishnupur district. He said Loktak being one of the largest water bodies in Asia with its unique natural beauty surrounded by hills all around is a blessing to the people of Manipur.

Now Loktak has become not only a soul of Manipur but also a soul of the Northeast and the country as a whole, he said. 

Pointing out that the lake has a great tourist potential, he asked the state government to not hesitate in apprising the ministry for every required promotional and development works in Loktak to make it a world class tourist center.

After witnessing that the fund sanctioned by the ministry for the development of the lake is used rightly and effectively by the LDA, the union minister expressed his profound satisfaction.

Sonowal also expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister N Biren and his colleague for rendering their greatest service for the development of Manipur in their almost five years tenure.

It is the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has been giving special emphasis on Northeast states in terms of development, he pointed out.

In the 75 years of Independence, none of the Prime Minister other than Modi gave his heart and soul for the spiritual growth of the Northeast, he added. 

Since the inception of the NDA government, each and every Union ministers visited the state to take stock of the various welfare schemes and programmes of the Centre in the ground level and to make sure the schemes reached out to the last person.

Asserting that the Northeast has now become a new engine for India's growth, Sonowal apprised the public to give its support to the government in exploring all possible measures for speedy growth.

Regarding the upcoming Assembly election of Manipur, he expressed his confidence that the BJP government will return to power.

"I came to witnessed that people of Manipur are satisfied with the various initiative taken up by the Biren government. So BJP will return to power again," added Sonowal.

Following the function, the Union minister also took a tour of the Loktak Lake by boat and had a dinner at a floating hut in the middle of the lake.

He was accompanied by Union minister of state for External Affairs RK Ranjan, LDA chairman L Sushindro, Moirang MLA P Sharatchandra among others.
