At least six valley-based student bodies on Wednesday urged the people of Manipur to immediately stop organising any kind of entertainment programmes such as Thabal Chongba, musical concert, Leela and other programmes in view of the upcoming BOSEM and COHSEM examination.

The six student bodies included the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), the Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF), the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), the Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), the Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and the Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more than two academic years have been wasted without proper education. So, organising entertainment events after the five-day Yaoshang festival is not a good sign, said a joint release issued by the six student bodies.

It pointed out that the upcoming BOSEM examination for class X is scheduled from April 5 and COHSEM examination for class XI and XII is scheduled from April 8 and 7 respectively.

The entertainment programmes conducted in the name of cultures and traditions lead to decreasing morality of the youths, it said, adding if it is not stopped in time the society will go backwards.

The release appealed to the organisers who have already scheduled the date for Thabal Chongba to postpone it to the day of Cheiraoba festival.

Stating that the six student bodies have been imposing a ban on DJ concerts even in the past, it appealed to the organiser to refrain from organising any sorts of DJ concerts in Manipur.

For any relaxation in the future, the student bodies will be discussing the matter with the associations and bodies of the artists, the release mentioned.

Those who continue organising entertainment events will be considered as an enemy of the student community and the society, it said cautioning that those who organise such entertainment programmes will be held responsible for any unwanted consequences.

The release also appealed to the Lai Haraoba committee to refrain from using loud speakers during Lai Haraoba until the ending of the COHSEM and BOSEM examination.
