Six more MLAs sworn-in as ministers; BJP-led Manipur government secures full cabinet strength

The six newly inducted ministers are Letpao Haokip of Tengnoupal AC, S Ranjan Singh of Konthoujam, L Susindro alias Yaima of Khurai AC, H Dingo of Sekmai, Th Basanta of Nambol and Khashim Vashum (NPF) of Chingai.

With the induction of six more MLAs as the members of the Council of Ministers in the BJP-led Manipur government on Saturday at Raj Bhawan, Imphal, the new Manipur government has now secured its full cabinet strength.

Letpao Haokip of Tengnoupal AC, S Ranjan Singh of Konthoujam, L Susindro alias Yaima of Khurai, H Dingo of Sekmai, Th Basanta of Nambol and Khashim Vashum of Chingai are the six newly inducted ministers.

The oath of office and secrecy of the six ministers were administered by Governor La Ganesan in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, other cabinet ministers, legislatures, high ranking officials of the state government, BJP Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra, BJP Manipur president A Sharda, among others.

Of the six newly inducted ministers, all are from BJP except Khashim Vashum, who is from NPF. Among them, Letpao Haokip is the only one who was also a minister in the previous government while all of them are new faces. 

On March 21, N Biren Singh was sworn-in as the chief minister of Manipur for the second consecutive term along with five MLAs as minister.

The five ministers sworn in then were Th Biswajit Singh, Y Khemchand, Govindas Konthoujam, Nemcha Kipgen and Awangbow Newmai. All the five ministers have been given their portfolios.

“The portfolios for the six newly inducted ministers will be given within one or two days,” CM Biren said while replying to a query raised by the media on the sideline of the ceremony.

“As the government is in full strength, we will put our full effort to deliver on the assurances and commitments given to the public during the election,” CM Biren added.
