The JAC Against Rape and Sexual Harassment, SIMS Kakwa Lamdaibung on Tuesday threatened to launch intense agitation if the Manipur government fails to provide a resolution in the case by Friday.
JAC convenor Laishram Roshini Devi stated in a release that the JAC and the people have waited long enough for the resolution from the High Court of Manipur regarding the anticipatory bail application of the four individuals who were accused in the alleged rape of a student of Saina Institute of Medical Science (SIMS).
The bail application for the four accused, namely SIMS founder cum managing director Yumnam Surjitkumar along with teachers Y Nonibala alias Sonia, L Kunjarani Devi and SK Wajiv Shah, was reserved at the high court of Manipur since September 14, it added.
It condemned the ‘deliberate delay’ of justice and questioned if the “the authorities concerned have all fallen into the pocket of the rapist and his accomplices.”
The JAC along with the people of the state will always fight for justice for the victim, it maintained.
“If the judiciary, legislative and executive authorities all continue paying deaf ears to the crimes committed by the rich and powerful, it will lead to the downfall of our society,” it stated.
It alleged the chief minister N Biren was avoiding the JAC but a memorandum has been submitted, it stated. The JAC further alleged the CM for being a hypocrite for organising the ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ (People’s Day), while ‘ignoring and denying’ justice in the SIMS rape case.
“Do the people need to cause havoc by organising protests, general strikes and rallies just to get the attention of the state government?” it questioned.
The JAC demanded the state government and the authorities concerned for resolution in the alleged rape case and punish those responsible for it, it added.
