The Women Action for Development (WAD) has called for immediate arrest of alleged rape accused, founder of SAINA Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Porompat.

WAD stated in a release issued by its programme coordinator Tuithung Aphy that the incident, which took place on August 14, will also lead to a trust deficit between the students and the teacher community in society as two women teachers are said to be involved in the incident.

The police failed to arrest the main accused identified as Yumnam Surjitkumar of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai, Imphal East despite FIR filed at WPS, Lamphel on August 16, 2022, the WAD said.

Such negligence of the concerned PS will delay the course of investigation to deliver justice to the aggrieved party, the release stated.

WAD is deeply concerned about the unfortunate situation faced by our women, children and students who are not even safe in our own state, in our home, schools and institutions, she said.
