As the increasing air pollution and deplorable road condition caused by the ongoing Tamenglong-Khongsang road expansion work poses serious health hazards to the people living in the area, the road construction company on Tuesday gave its assurance to blacktop the Tamenglong town road before Christmas.
Shivalaya Road Construction Pvt Ltd, which is engaged in double lane construction of the Tamenglong-Khongsang road in Tamenglong district, Manipur, gave the assurance during a meeting held by the Traders Association Tamenglong on Tuesday.
Earlier, during meetings with the Traders Association Tamenglong, Shivalaya company agreed to include blacktopping of Tamenglong town road up to C Centre Ward No VI and repair the road up to Khunjao.
Pressing on the agreement, a joint meeting was held at PWD official bungalow Tamenglong on Tuesday, stated TP Pantithan, vice president, Traders Association Tamenglong.
Shivalaya company vehicles have been plying frequently to and fro carrying road construction materials along the Tamenglong town road, throwing up heavy dust pollution and creating potholes in the process.
“Smoke and dust from the under-construction road is posing health hazards to the public,” Pantithan said, adding, “Tamenglong town is an accident prone area. High quality blacktopping of the road can help avert road mishap”.
Following the Tuesday meeting, Shivalaya company agreed on heavy vehicle commuting time from 6 pm to 6 am.
Reddy Nagha Bhushan, company project coordinator, said that Shivalaya is trying to complete Tamenglong-Khongsang road double lane construction by June 2022. He requested all to give utmost cooperation and support to complete the road construction at the earliest.
