The Shiv Sena party, which is contesting Assembly elections in Manipur for the first time, released its election manifesto on Sunday in Imphal West. The manifesto, which was released by party national general secretary Anil Desai at its state head office, contains 16 pledges.

The Shiv Sena manifesto mentioned safeguarding Manipur’s territorial integrity, repealing of AFSPA, bringing peace among various militant groups and peaceful coexistence of all communities settled in the state.

Generation of employment by boosting the tourism sector, supporting 33 per cent reservation for women in all categories, work to minimise poverty, fight to control drug menace, improve education sector and infrastructure development in all aspects are also included in the manifesto.

Speaking to the media, Desai said none of the past governments of Manipur has fulfilled the basic rights of the people of Manipur such as quality education, hygienic drinking water, good health care, proper irrigation facility, uninterrupted power supply among others. As a result, there is a need to change the representatives of Manipur in order to bring a positive change in the state, he said.

Pointing out that supplying abusive substances and encouraging the youth to use it has become a trend to gain vote banks, Desai said: “Lets us not fall into such ugly traps and suppress our rights. Let us vote for a change without the influence of money and muscle power,” he said adding, “Manipur will move backward if we continue to sell our rights”.
