Shirui Lily Marathon to be held on May 26

A release stated that T Coleve under the aegis of 4th Shirui Lily Festival Entertainment Sub-committee will organise the 22 kilometre half marathon under the theme ‘Say No to Drugs’ in line with the Manipur state government’s War on Drugs campaign.

Shirui Lily Marathon under the theme ‘Say No to Drugs’, as part of the 4th edition of the state level Shirui Lily Festival will be organised by the Collective Events (T Coleve) on May 26 at Ukhrul district headquarter.

A release stated that T Coleve under the aegis of 4th Shirui Lily Festival Entertainment Sub-committee will organise the 22 kilometre half marathon under the theme ‘Say No to Drugs’ in line with the Manipur state government’s War on Drugs campaign. Interested individuals can register for the men’s open marathon at the organising team’s official instagram page called ‘tcoleve’, it informed.

It mentioned the importance of the Shirui Lily Festival, which is celebrated from May 25 to 28, in saving the endangered flora species, Shirui Lily or Lillum macklineae (locally known as Kashong Timrawon). “By disseminating the news of the marathon far and wide, the organizing team is looking forward to utilizing the event as a vehicle to drive attention towards the unique, exquisite yet imperilled lily endemic to the Shirui Hills of Ukhrul district, Manipur,” it read.

The four-day major event of the Shirui Lily Festival will host varied activities ranging from the rich cultural display of Manipur especially that of the Tangkhul Naga community, it added.

The release continued that the marathon aimed to spread awareness and messages encouraging youths to take up healthy activities in lieu of drugs or other harmful substances.
