Shija Hospital and Research Institute Pvt Ltd, in association with Burn Healing Foundation, a Delhi-based NGO, has begun providing free surgery for post burn defects with effect from Saturday.
Addressing mediapersons at the institute located in Langol on Saturday, chairman cum managing director of SHIJA, Dr Khundongbam Palin, said that incidents of body burns caused, accidentally or in an attempt to suicide, leave a lifetime body deformity.
The state has, surprisingly, many such cases, Dr Palin said and lamented that due to lack of awareness about ways and means for its treatment, most of them didn't even think to diagnose it and continue to live their life full of challenges and difficulties.
Such incidents may trigger mental trauma, he cautioned while stating that, with an objective to address the inconveniences of those patients, Burn Healing Foundation had initiated the free surgery service for post-burn defects.
The foundation has been providing this service across the country and for the state of Manipur, the foundation has opted SHIJA institute, Dr Palin informed, adding that this ongoing programme will cater to all age groups.
So far, seven patients have approached the institute for the service, he informed while appealing to people of the state, who are undergoing this difficulty, to avail the free service. The deformed body part cannot be restored in its original shape but that this surgical treatment will surely help to reduce the extremities of contractures, he added.
