He said that on June 12, a team from Thawai Mirel visited Jiribam district and met some of the displaced people in relief camps.

Over 1,000 villagers settled around Jiribam town were displaced and over 70 houses were burned down after violence escalated in the district on June 6. This followed the discovery of a 59-year-old man who was found beheaded after being reported missing, Dara said.

Dara narrated that Assam commandos were seen securing the road from Jirighat to Silchar. They reported that the Assam commandos are ready to take stringent action against any Kuki who try to attack Meitei commuters along the road. The security measures taken by the Assam government are commendable, he added.

Failing to take similar security measures by the Manipur government is shameful, he said, adding that the people of Jiribam district are demanding an end to the ongoing violence and have also demanded that the government establish police outposts at Jirimukh, Leishabithol, Bhutangkhal, Boroikhal, Lamtaikhunou, and other locations.

The team from Thawai Mirel met many displaced people taking shelter at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Bidyanagar, Jiribam, which was categorized into three different units. Through interaction, it was learned that displaced people staying at Unit 1 had been displaced from other districts after the May 3 incident last year, Dara said.

Dara said the state government should take necessary steps to end the tension in the district so that the displaced people can return to their homes.
