The event was held as part of the unit's ongoing ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ celebration. It was aimed to create awareness and inspire ‘Mass Movement for Health and Well Being’ through Yoga. Common Yoga Protocols, Yoga postures and demonstrations were some of the activities undertaken by the battalion at the event.

At the occasion, Commandant of 44 Assam Rifles, Pradeep Kumar stressed on the importance of Yoga in everyone's life and especially for women. “It is the day and age of the multitalented and multifaceted women, who handle their professional and personal lives with utmost finesse. Yoga is the best way to practice fitness during monsoons,” it added.

He said that regular practice of Yoga can help women to maintain better physical and mental health, energy levels and self-esteem.  Even simple breathing techniques can also help to calm down and handle our multiple responsibilities with proficiency and poise, he added.

With such initiatives, Assam Rifles hopes to promote Yoga and spread the message for holistic development of mind and body, which is highly beneficial to humanity.

“With the onset of the rainy season, a variety of waterborne infections, respiratory illness and stomach disorders are on rise. This calls for us to improve the functioning of our immune system through regular physical activity but the rain keeps us indoors hindering any regular outdoor activity,” Commandant added.

Indoor Yoga is an easy way to practice fitness and a healthy lifestyle. An indoor practice of yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation in the cosy confines of our home or balcony can simply boost immunity and overall health, he said. There are specific asanas and yogic techniques that are designed for the monsoons which gives the people the added benefits of increased immunity, he added.
