Security forces foil timber smuggling; one PLA cadre apprehended

A troop of Assam Rrifles intercepted four trucks carrying illegal timber in Chandrakhong, Thoubal district and seized the timber worth Rs 2.42 lakh.

The Keithelmanbi Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled timber smuggling in Thoubal district on April 27.

According to a release by IGAR, a troop of AR intercepted four trucks carrying illegal timber in Chandrakhong, Thoubal district and seized the timber worth Rs 2.42 lakh.

The seized items along with the smugglers were handed over to the Forest Department for further legal action, it added.

In another operation, the AR, in a joint operation with the Manipur police, apprehended a lieutenant of proscribed group PLA from Kodompokpi Lamkhai, Bishnupur district on Friday, the release mentioned.

Based on specific inputs, troops of AR and Manipur police launched an operation which led to the apprehension, it stated.

The apprehended insurgent was handed over to Nambol police station for further investigation, the IGAR said.
