CAF and PF Minister L Susindro, on the floor of the House, addressed concerns over the ongoing scarcity of LPG in Manipur, attributing it to multifaceted challenges including law and order issues, transport strikes, and convoy disruptions.

Responding to a starred question posed by Opposition MLA K Meghachandra on whether the scarcity was artificially induced, the minister emphatically denied such claims.

He cited logistical challenges exacerbated by sporadic convoy movements and strikes by transporters as primary reasons for the reduced availability of LPG in the state.

He stated that the illegal hoarding and diversion of LPG to the black market by some individuals having many LPG connections might have contributed to the problem.

Elaborating further, the minister revealed that convoy movements, crucial for transporting essential supplies including LPG, were severely restricted in recent months.

In June, convoys operated only for 10 days, followed by 14 days in July, and no movements at all this month due to ongoing strikes, he explained, adding consequently, the import quantity of LPG has been significantly curtailed, impacting availability.

Looking ahead, the minister announced a positive development stating, “The convoy operations are set to resume from Tuesday following the resolution of the transport strike. We expect LPG availability to normalise soon.”

Addressing concerns raised by MLA Meghachandra regarding exorbitant black market prices of LPG, reportedly ranging between Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per cylinder, Susindro assured proactive measures.
A dedicated team has been dispatched to monitor and apprehend those involved in illegal activities related to LPG distribution, he assured the Assembly.

To collaborate in combating black market activities, the minister pledged prompt action upon receiving specific information.
