Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba 2023: 'Time for peace and harmony in Manipur'

The Manipur governor, the chief minister and state minister extended greetings to the people on Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba 2023.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and state ministers extended heartiest greetings to the people of the state on the joyous occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba which falls on March 22 this year.

Uikey, in her message, said that it gives her immense pleasure to greet the people of Manipur on the occasion of "Sajibu Nongma Panba (Cheiraoba)" - Manipuri New Year's Day, 2023.

“New Year is an occasion for the people to rejoice and look forward to the future with hope. It is time for making resolutions to usher in a year of peace and harmony in the state. I also look forward to the New Year as the harbinger for a happy and prosperous life for all the people in the state irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

"I am hopeful that the advent of the New Year will further cement the bond of friendship among the different communities in the state. On the occasion of Sajibu Nongmapanba, I urge all to rededicate themselves once again to the promotion of peace and harmony in the state for making a better Manipur”, she said in her message.

Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba marks the Manipuri New Year, bringing new hopes and possibilities, Biren said.

"It is considered a harbinger of prosperity and progress, and reinforces the age-old bond of brotherhood between the different communities of the State... I wish that the festival may fill us all with positivity and a zeal to turn our dreams into reality and efforts into achievements. Let us once again dedicate ourselves to taking Manipur to greater heights,” he added.

Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh also extended wishes, stating that the traditional festival of Sajibu Cheiraoba is celebrated in Manipur to mark the beginning of a new year with religious fervour and gaiety. The festival heralds the advent of the new year of the Meitei lunar calendar, and strengthens the bond of love and brotherhood in the state, he mentioned.

He also invited the people to cherish the festival with a sense of cleanliness, goodwill and communal integration by offering festive dishes to various deities.

Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai in his message also conveyed his greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Sajibu Nongmapanba Cheiraoba. On this day let us all rededicate to strive towards the goal for all the households of the state, he added. He also extended well wishes for the festival to bring good health, wealth and happiness.

“Sajibu Nongma Panba also called Meitei Cheiraoba or Sajibu Cheiraoba is celebrated in Manipur to mark the advent of the traditional new year,” textiles minister Nemcha Kipgen stated in her message.

"May this festival strengthen the bond of love among family members, while also fostering the feeling of brotherhood in the members of the community at large," she added.
